Foldable steel tripod with padded seat, designed to hold a handpan at playing height.
When placed on the thighs, part of the handpan shell is muffled by the contact: the sustain is shortened and the bass notes lose resonance. The tripod only touches the instrument at its periphery, which allows the shell to vibrate freely. The difference can be heard from the very first note, particularly on the ding.
The tripod folds flat and slides into a bag or the accessory compartment of a carrying case. The padded seat remains attached to the stand, so there are no loose parts to lose.
The tripod is suitable for the vast majority of standard-diameter handpans. Before each session, check that the legs are fully extended and locked: a steel instrument weighing several kilos will not forgive a fall.

A handpan is almost never damaged by a single violent impact, but rather by the accumulation of minor neglect.
Sweat is slightly acidic and salty. Left on steel, it initiates oxidation that first attacks the tone fields, where the tuning is set. Wiping it down after each session is enough to prevent this.
This is the instrument's weak point: the junction of the two shells takes all the impact when it is set down or rubs against a wall. An impact at this spot can deform the shell and cause adjacent notes to go out of tune.
Flat, in a padded case. This is the only position that distributes the 3 to 5 kg of the instrument instead of having them borne by the edges.
Steel reacts to the abrupt transition from the cold outdoors to a heated room. Let the instrument reach room temperature in its case before playing.
